Spotify introduces restrictions for free users in India. Here are some key features that have been removed

Spotify is tightening restrictions for free users in India, encouraging them to subscribe to its Premium service.

Starting now, free users in India will lose the ability to play songs on demand, repeat tracks, or go back to previously played songs. These features will be available exclusively to Premium subscribers. However, free users will still be able to enjoy music from their favorite artists, albums, and playlists, along with song recommendations.

Since its launch in India in 2019, Spotify had offered these features for free, but the company now says that as the market matures, it’s time to adjust the free tier. These changes bring the free service in India more in line with what Spotify offers in Brazil.

A Redseer report from April 2023 highlighted that Spotify holds the top spot as the most popular music streaming platform in India, with a market share of around 26%.

Spotify Premium plans in India:
Spotify’s Premium plan in India starts at ₹7/day, offering ad-free music on mobile and the option to download up to 30 songs on a single device. The ₹119/month plan allows users to download up to 10,000 songs across five devices.
