You Can Now Get SpaceX’s Starlink Mini Internet Antenna That Fits in a Backpack

SpaceX’s Starlink service is becoming more portable with the release of a compact internet antenna that fits easily in a backpack.

SpaceX has unveiled a new mobile version of its satellite internet system, the Starlink Mini, which is designed to offer internet access on-the-go across the United States. The antenna is small and portable, allowing users to set it up quickly wherever they are.

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, shared his experience setting up the device on social media in June, stating, “I just set it up right now and am writing this post through space. Took less than 5 minutes. Easily carried in a backpack. This product will change the world.” Musk also posted the results of a speed test that showed download speeds of 100 Mbps, upload speeds of 11.5 Mbps, and a latency of 23ms.

Initially, when the product was launched, it was tied to a residential Starlink subscription, limiting access. However, SpaceX has since removed this requirement, allowing anyone to sign up for Starlink Mini.

The Starlink Mini is priced at $599 and offers internet access anywhere in the U.S. The service is available in two plans: the Mini Roam plan, which offers 50GB of data for $50 a month, and the Mobile Regional plan, which provides unlimited data for $150 per month. The plans allow for flexible billing, with the option to pause and resume service at any time. In-motion use is available only with the Mini Roam plan, while Mobile Regional customers can pay for in-motion use by the GB.

The device itself weighs just over two pounds and measures 12 x 10 x 1.5 inches, slightly larger than a letter-sized piece of paper but much thicker. Compared to a regular Starlink dish, the Mini is much more compact, lighter, and uses less power. Built to withstand outdoor conditions, the Starlink Mini can operate in temperatures ranging from -22°F to 122°F and has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
